Parts of Speech

  

Each word in a sentence that we use  means something. Some are used as names, some as quality, some describe someone or something while others show an action.  This means that each word has a specific function in a sentence. Based on their function, words are put in different categories. As when we speak, it is called a speech, therefore each word uttered or written in a speech is a part of speech. Based on the function of these words used, we divide speech into eight parts. These are:

                1. Noun

                2. Pronoun

                3. Adjective

                4. Verb

                5. Adverb

                6. Conjunction

                7. Preposition

                8. Interjection
